“Okay. Where should I be?”

“Sundome, twenty minutes ago.”

“Wrong answer. In case you haven’t looked out of your window, the sun has been down a while. What the hell is so important?”

“Hanson Whitley’s spin doctors are cooking something up. He wants you down there now.”

“Come on, Davis. I planned on staying down here tonight,” Tanner complained.

“Life is full of disappointments.”

“How am I supposed to get there?”

“Victor Steiger is going to give you a lift in one of those flying arsenals with that crazy-ass Ramirez riding shotgun. I heard he cut a Mack truck in half with a machine gun tonight.”

Tanner looked at Eric and shook her head. “Alright, Davis. I’ll get down there as fast as I can,” she said reluctantly, then clicked off her phone.

“Guess that wraps up this session,” Eric said sarcastically.

“We’ll finish this conversation the next time I see you,” Tanner assured him.

Eric grabbed her wrist as she stood up to leave. “Just remember…this is confidential. Tell no one.”

Tanner looked at his hand on her wrist and smiled. “Ooouuu. Harder, Eric. Harder.”

Eric frowned at her and released her arm. “I’m serious.”

“So am I.” She paused a moment. “Okay. I talk to no one about Retro-V.”

Tanner could feel Eric’s eyes on her as she walked away. Even though Eric was pissed at Tanner for snubbing him, there was no denying that he still liked looking at her. He was so entranced watching her legs that he did not notice when she slipped a vial of Retro-V into her jacket pocket.
